| Mean temperatures ranging from around 1.5 °C above average across the Northern Isles to over 3.5 °C above average across some areas of central England. Provisionally over the UK, it was the warmest January since 1916, and 2nd warmest in areal series back to 1914. Well above average rainfall across much of western Scotland, with Scotland W district area having its wettest January since 1993. In contrast, parts of Eastern Scotland and southernmost areas of England had slightly below average rainfall. Sunshine was generally above average with well above average sunshine across E and NE England. However, some western areas of Scotland received below average sunshine. Capel Curig recorded a gust of 100 m.p.h. on the 18th, with the gales causing disruption over much of England and Wales. Dyce (Aberdeen Airport) recorded a temperature of 15.0 °C on 12th. |

average, although some stations in northeast England only received around 50%
of average rainfall. Sunshine levels generally well above average, with many

| An exceptionally warm month, with all climate districts and regions setting new
April records for maximum and mean temperatures (areal series back to 1914).
Maximum temperatures anomalies were over 5 °C above the 1961-90 average
across much of southern England and parts of eastern Scotland. Rainfall generally
well below average, with many stations over SE England and East Anglia recording
less than 3 mm of rainfall. Sunshine was also well above average across the majority
of the UK, with some areas having their sunniest April on record.
Herstmonceux (Sussex) recorded a temperature of 26.5 °C on 15th. Record high April 24-hour minimums were recorded at many stations between 23rd and 25th, with a 24 hour minimum at London St James Park of 14.5 °C on 24/25th. |
Mean temperatures ranging from close to average across north-west Scotland to
over 1 °C above average across southern and eastern England. Well above
average rainfall across the majority of the UK, with East Anglia experiencing
its wettest May (areal series back to 1914) with over 200% of average May rainfall.
Sunshine amounts varying from above average over Scotland and Northern Ireland
to below average across parts of eastern England. The day-time (09-21 UTC) maximum temperature of 7.9 °C at Heathrow on 28th was its 2nd coldest for May (records back to 1949), coldest on record being 7.5 °C on 1st May 1979. St Catherine's Point (Isle of Wight) reported a 24 hour (09-09 UTC) rainfall total of 74.8 mm on 27th.

well below average across the northeast of Scotland, but slightly above average
across western areas of Scotland.
Pershore College recorded 157.4 mm and Brize Norton 127.8 mm in the 48 hour period on 19/20th. Brize Norton recording 101.0 mm of their total in just a 7 hour period and Pershore College recorded 134.8 mm of their total in a 16 hour period. |
