Met Office experts on hand to advise Madonna

Climate change experts from the Met Office will be on hand on Saturday to advise rock stars at the environmental Live Earth concert.

Dr Richard Betts and Dr Matt Huddleston are the official scientific advisers for the UK part of the international event.

Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign to persuade individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve global warming. On Saturday eight concerts are being held at various venues around the world, including London.

Dr Betts, the Met Office's climate impacts expert, has been working to ensure that everyone involved with the UK concert has the most up-to-date, correct information to hand. During the concert Richard will be backstage, in order to advise any of the rock acts, such as Madonna and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, on climate change. Dr Huddleston, the Met Office's Climate Change Consultant, will brief the BBC presenters, including Jonathan Ross.

Marianne Troup, General Manager for Live Earth UK said "We are hugely grateful to Richard and the Met Office for providing us with the expert scientific advice which is so integral to Live Earth. From artist briefings on the day to providing the brains behind the 'ask a climate expert' service on the Live Earth website, we have been fully supported."

The Met Office's advice on climate science aims to dispel the myths and confusion sometimes associated with climate change and global warming, and to help promote the event’s overall message – climate change is real.
