The inshore waters forecast issued by the Met Office, on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency

For coastal areas up to 12 miles offshore from Tuesday 09 February 2010 at 1800 until Wednesday 10 February 2010 at 1800

General Situation at 1800 on Tue 09 Feb 2010
An anticyclone near Iceland will maintain a ridge of high pressure across western areas of the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, a shallow low in the northern North Sea moves slowly southwards to affect eastern and southeastern coastal areas of England tonight and on Wednesday morning.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Northerly 4 or 5, occasionally 6 at first in east, backing northwesterly 3 or 4 later. Rough in north, moderate in east. Wintry showers. Good.
Outlook:  Northwest backing west or northwest, 3 or 4, increasing 4 or 5 later. Rough becoming moderate in north, moderate becoming slight in east. Wintry showers. Good.

Rattray Head to Berwick on Tweed - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: North 5 or 6, decreasing 3 or 4. Moderate. Showers. Good.
Outlook:  Northerly or northeasterly, backing westerly, 3 or 4, occasionally 5 in north. Moderate. Wintry showers. Good.

Berwick on Tweed to Whitby - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: North 5 or 6, veering northeast 4 or 5, decreasing 3 for a time. Moderate becoming rough. Showers, becoming wintry later. Good.
Outlook:  Northeast 4 or 5, backing northwest 3 or 4. Rough becoming moderate. Wintry showers. Good.

Whitby to Gibraltar Point - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Northeast 4 or 5, increasing 6 for a time. Moderate becoming rough. Showers, becoming wintry later. Good.
Outlook:  Northeast 4 or 5, decreasing 3 or 4, backing northwest later. Rough becoming moderate. Wintry showers. Good.

Gibraltar Point to North Foreland - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Northeast, backing north for a time, 5 or 6, occasionally 7 later. Moderate, occasionally rough in north. Wintry showers. Good, occasionally poor in east.
Outlook:  Northeast 5 to 7, increasing gale 8 at times. Moderate, occasionally rough at first in north. Wintry showers. Good, occasionally poor in east.

North Foreland to Selsey Bill - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Northeast, backing north for a time, 5 to 7. Slight near shore, otherwise moderate or rough. Wintry showers in east otherwise mainly fair. Good, occasionally poor in east.
Outlook:  Northeast 5 to 7, increasing gale 8 at times. Slight near shore, otherwsie moderate or rough. Wintry showers, mainly in east. Good, occasionally poor in east.

Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Northeast, backing north for a time, 5 or 6, increasing 7 at times. Slight near shore, otherwise moderate or rough. Fair, wintry showers later in east. Good, occasionally poor later in east.

Lyme Regis to Lands End including the Isles of Scilly - Strong winds are forecast

Lands End to St Davids Head including the Bristol Channel

St Davids Head to Great Ormes Head including St Georges Channel
24 hour forecast: Northeast 4 or 5, decreasing 3 or 4. Moderate near st david's head, otherwise slight. Mainly fair. Good.
