Spring 2008 forecast appraisal

Observed temperature for Europe European mean temperature Headline: Most likely average or above average over much of Europe.

Spells of below-average temperatures likely for north-west Europe, particularly in the early part of spring.

Above average over much of Europe (see map on left).

For the UK cold spells of below-average temperatures were most marked and prolonged in the first two months of spring (March and April - see Spring 2008 summary), reflecting the broader pattern over much of north-west Europe.

UK mean temperature Headline: Most likely average or above average, and cooler than Spring 2007. Warmer than average and cooler than Spring 2007.
Observed precipitation for Europe European precipitation totals North-west Europe: More likely to be either average or below average than above average. Mix of below and above average (see map on left). Northern regions of Europe had below-average rainfall. Other regions, particularly the west, had above-average rainfall.
UK precipitation totals For the UK as a whole, more likely to be either average or below average than above average. Above average (see Spring 2008 summary).
