UK Outlook for Friday 11 Jul 2008 to Sunday 20 Jul 2008:

Friday and Saturday will be unsettled with some sunshine, but also showers or longer outbreaks of rain. The heaviest of the rain or showers probably over England and Wales, with mainly dry weather across the north of Scotland. More unsettled and showery weather is expected for Sunday and for the start of next week, with again the risk of some heavy and prolonged showers in the south on Sunday. Conditions should start to improve towards the mid week with the showers becoming fewer and lighter. There are indications that high pressure could build through the second half of next week, giving the promise of more settled and warmer conditions.

Seasonal forecasting:

Seasonal forecasting is a developing area of meteorology and, although these forecasts are not as accurate as our short-term forecasts, they do demonstrate some skill in predicting what may happen for a season (a three-month period) ahead.

The forecasts provide an estimation of broad trends in temperature and rainfall and will normally be expressed in probabilistic terms, with the more likely outcome highlighted. Information contained in these forecasts can allow business to plan ahead for weather that is forecast to be different from normal.
